It was known months ago that the kingdom of Jordan is facing a great water crisis ahead of the summer. This raised the possibility that in the end Israel would be the one to reach out to to help the kingdom.
It seems that this will be the case, but not for free. Jordanian Water and Irrigation Minister Muhammad Al-Nagar revealed last night that the Jordanian government is about to purchase additional amounts of water from Israel to deal with the shortage.
The Jordanian minister's statements came on the "Public seat" program broadcast by the Al-Malka TV channel. This is not the first time Jordan has bought water from Israel. Last July, the two countries announced that they had reached an agreement that 50 million cubic meters of water would be sold to Jordan each year. According to the peace agreement between the parties, Israel supplies Jordan with up to 55 million cubic meters of water annually from the Sea of Galilee.
